Guadalupe Cachi - Minesterial Symposium
THE TALE OF TWO SHORT GIANTS: Allow me to introduce you to two short giants, Nicanor Flores and Alejandro Alvarez. Humble, short men, hidden by the crowd. I noticed that when I wrote Nicanor a text, he always answered by voice text. One time I requested written information. He responded, "Sorry, I don't know how to write." How amazing is our God! A man who can't write, yet he founded, built, and pastored a church that grew to over 600 congregants. He named the Church "Camino de Salvacion" (Highway of Salvation).
Last November, as I stood before the beautiful church building in Guadalupe Cachi, I asked Nicanor who designed it. He said, "Your humble servant designed it and built it". An architect who can't write?! How amazing is our God! My next question was: "How did you get the funds?" He responded, "Forty-five years ago, I called your Dad (Harold Dunn) and asked if I could meet with him. He met me at a bus stop in the middle of nowhere. Your Dad gave me an offering to launch my vision."
But, after Nicanor had built up the church, he turned it over to another short man, Alejandro Alvarez. Nicanor was called to the jungles. Nicanor's nickname is "El Incansable" (The Inexhaustible One). He walks and walks and walks some more. Miles. Days. Through the trees. He walks where vehicles cannot go, to little indigenous outposts in the jungles of Mexico. A family here, a few families there, to tell them about the Good News. When back home in Guadalupe Cachi, he continues to work with his friend, Alejandro Alvarez, known as Pastor Alex, building up the local church. No jealousy. No competition. Two short giants working together to build God's Kingdom.
I am humbled. I feel so short next to these tall giants of the faith. Unbelievably, over 100 pastors look to these two short men for guidance. Nicanor and Alex sent me a voice text. Passing the phone between themselves, they requested that The Growing Kingdom come to Guadalupe Cachi and present a Conference. They promised to work hard to bring many pastors together at Highway of Salvation to receive instruction. These are Pentecostal servants of God who work tirelessly for His Kingdom, but they are hungry for a deeper understanding of God's Word. Incredible Teaching Elders have committed to answer the call. Will you help?
HOW YOU CAN HELP: If God lays a burden on your heart for this conference, you can make a Tax-Deductible donation to Hilltop Lakes Chapel, my home church. The funds will be used judiciously. (Three pastors receive financial reports.) If God leads you to participate, please do so as soon as possible, as airline tickets and other expenditures must be made in advance. LEAD WITH PRAYER: Pray that God's Word run, overcoming all obstacles, "as far as the curse is found". Pray that His Kingdom will be firmly established in Guadalupe Cachi.
